Kasargod, Apr 10: The first honorary doctorate from Kerala Kendriya Vidyalaya was awarded to sports P T Usha.
The honorary doctorate was presented by vice chancellor Prof H Venkateshwaralu in a program held at the Sabarmati auditorium on the Peria campus.
During the program, P T Usha became emotional while recounting the moment when she lost the medal at the Los Angeles Olympics by one hundredth of a second. She expressed her ongoing commitment to win an Olympic medal for the country, adding that it was possible with the support of prayers from several people. She encouraged the identification of talent and nurturing it at the school level.
Prof H Venkateshwaralu praised P T Usha for being a source of pride for the nation and said it was the university's duty to recognize those who have become role models for the country. He added that P T Usha serves as an inspiration to students.
Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof Amrath G Kumar, and special duty officer, Prof Rajendra Pilangatta, also spoke during the event.
Registrar Dr M Muralidharan Nambiar extended the welcome, and Ccontroller of examinations in-charge, Prof M N Mustafa, proposed a vote of thanks.
Deans, department heads, teachers, students, and staff were also present.
The university awarded P T Usha with the honorary doctorate in recognition of her contribution to the sports sector.
