Puttur: Attempted Religious Conversion – One Arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Jul 2: A person named Pravin from Aladangadi in the taluk was arrested by the personnel of Uppinangady police station on Friday July 1, on the allegation of abetting religious conversion. Pravin faces the charge that he had brought pressure on Kartik (14), a student of Kanchana High School, to another religion.

Kartik, son of Jagadish Gowda from Koila village, had briefly run away from home last year. He had come back home about three months back. During the period he was away from home, Kartik, it is said, came in contact with Pravin.

Kartik, who studies in the ninth standard at the said institution, was contacted by Pravin a few days back for pressurizing him to convert to Christianity, it is alleged.

Pravin was arrested from near the above high school on Friday. Rural circle inspector of police, Manjaiah, is guiding the investigation.

    @Panduranga
I laugh at your ignorance. You think india would be in dark ages if not for British? You have any idea about the scientific advances we had during the time of kings? Around 14th century, we were almost ahead of the world in terms of medicine, architecture, mining, shipping etc as per many travelers. The next 500 years Indians lived in fear psychosis. Indians instead turned into Bhakti Marga. More than thinking about Science, they were worried about their family well beings the Islamic onslaught was so brutal. Then the slave mentality continued with British. in such a situation, expecting great inventions by Indians was too much. Still we had our own Ramanujams, Boses, Ramans. But on the other side we have people like Pandurangas and Prabhakar Mendons who think their own parents are impotent and British were potent! Way to go guys.

I keep wondering why 85% majority of hindus are afraid of just 2% of christians in India? Are hindus not strong enough in their history, culture, faith and religion? Why such hue and cry over so called conversions? Most of the time they are just allegations! Why should they worry so much about conversions? This is a burning issue in our society. Can someone shed some light on this never ending issue?

We need to accept the reality that conversion is happening in India at larger scale during UPA regime, Though it was happening for centuries now it is on its peak, in Karnataka this may be in miniscale but north eastern states and orissa are targetted. Both Islam and Christianity are considered to be predatory religions. (they will eat up other religions for their faster growth). At the same time due credit should be given for the humanity aspect and developments they bring in alongwith restricted religious freedom.

It takes one stupid incident to show the fissures we all have in our beautiful Indian society. Why dont we all join together in spending the same energy in making our country strong. Just one incident and we all fall apart, and we become Christians, Hindus, Muslims and Nagesh Nayaks. I sincerely wish Mr. Nagesh Nayak does some soul searching and look around and find in all of us his brothers and sisters and not a Christian and a Hindu. What we are doing now is to only strengthen political parties with vested interests. I wish there is a conversion of mind in all of us for the glory of the country.

Irrespective of the merits and demerits of this case, we have to accept the reality that conversion is happening and is abbeted by people and institutions from neighboring state with fascist mentality. It has never been a problem with the Mangalorean Christians or Goan christians. Especially, those in coastal Karnataka, Goa and Kokan Maharashtra who were originally Hindu Konkanis who converted to Christianity have the progressive zeal of typical konkanis in them and have no time for such things. All such problems started only when things started pouring in from a neighboring state unchecked.

To Mr Mendon, sir you seem to be under the impression that India was like the dark continent of Africa before the British or Portuguse arrived. FYI algebra, calculus and chess originated in ancient India, quadratic equations were solved in Indian mathematical text several hundred years before Europe. It was the Arabs that took much from India and passed it onto European countries. Other important things that were invented/discovered in ancient India were the place value system in math and crystalline cane sugar that sweetens your daily cup of coffee/sugar. As an Indian (?) you shud hv some knowledge of Indian history!

Catholics are Educated and Living their life with families as true citizen. So we know what the law and Constituency -nagesh

But you and your BJP followers don’t have even minimum education, never studies law and order so govt know well if they ride churches they cannot find any funds without legal papers, but if they ride temples there is illegal funds, and temples follow the same system which is barter system or stone age people follow living without law and rules.

Transportation, communications, technology, all modern facility.

Look nagesh any community have same rules on illegal issues. You people have illegal funds in temple so Govt ride treasury. You must appreciate this kind of govt work.  You are the one who forget those people who gave you shelter, education, medicine and food.  Never forget to those who gave you necessaries to grow till now.  Now you may b have full bally so you are against...

If Kartik has a brain to go to police station, does he not have brain to say no to Praveen? Sorry to be very abrupt and blunt at Nagesh, I`m a kind of good fan of him. Sometimes I only look for his wonderful Idiotic comments. Hope fully, once you read my comments, in return you would become fan of me. Let me talk to you about some facts and reality. First thing, No Roman Catholic Priest or Nun would ask you to join Christianity.

They would not spend time to do that, especially a dumb like you. Second, you talk about the assets well you know the reality from where police discovers the gold and diamonds from the temples, or sadhus ashrams. Unlike the temples, each penny that is donated to the churches by devotees are counted and used for the social services, which you see as a bribe to join Christianity. So open your eyes.

There were almost thousand Schedule casts or Koragas joined embraced Buddhism, Why? Because of you bloody Brahmins. Unless you are one of them, and hope you know the holy and real meaning of Brahmin. Equal to Lord Rama. These days this is replaced by Blood suckers and meatitarians like you. Now, further, If you say another word to this, you should be disgraceful to yourself,
So be my fan and guest.

@ Lavina:We Roman Catholics get sensitive about small things so quickly.... unfortunately, even today, in the information age, the people of the cloth, continue a relentless, senseless exercise in teaching and preaching the word to people who may not be interested.

People like Nagesh Nayak will continue to feel threatened and rightly so, because no one has the right to go up to someone and try forcing new ideas about another belief system, alien to him/her.

Hinduism is such a free and open philosophy that it absorbed into itself, faiths for other parts of the world. Else tell me why, irrespective of our religion, Indian women adorn sarees? why is the magalsutr (karimani in konkani) so fundamental to marriage? an Indian is fundamentally Hindu at heart, take it or leave it.

Romans are dead and gone, wake up, you are an Indian before being a Roman whatever...stop hiding behind a Roman veil, its high time the Catholic clergy stand up to educate fellow Christians to stop this nonsense of forced conversions and the misunderstanding it is spreading

Well said, Lavina,Mangalore/Dubai. I do not know as to how to make people understand the difference between Catholics and other Christians. Any David, Thomas and Mathew is not a Catholic and now even some D'Souzas, Fernandes and Lobos also may not be Catholics as some of them have joined other groups. Forced conversion - No way in a Catholic Church. For the information of all, if a Non Catholic wishes to get married to a Catholic in a Catholic Church, the Non Catholic partner need not change his/her religion. To the best of my knowledge, I do not think there is any Catholic, who has a problem with his Hindu neighbour because of his religion.

Abrahamic religions other than Judaism, root their existence, in the belief that the word of GOD has to be spread to the far corners of the world. Christianity and Islam, spread through out the world through this method, those who appreciated what was preached, converted.

In as far as forced conversion in 2011 is concerned, we need to stress on conversion from alcoholism, adultery, fraud, scams, illiteracy, female infanticide and dowry. That conversion will bring peace and prosperity to society.

Call the supreme power by what ever name, all of us are too too small to claim stake to know that supreme power the best, in the way we know it or perceive it.

The underlying fact is humans live under different religions not because they want to, but because it fulfils their most fundamental need, which is to be part of a social construct what Hindus call "samaj",Christian call "fellowship" and Muslims call "brotherhood".

Its not the vehicle, but the journey, and how you conduct yourself during the journey that matters.... the rest is ether....

There are some religious group who have spolied the name of roman catholics, specially in Mangalore. these religious groups are in the business of converting the roman catholics also to their groups, eg. New life group. Just to make clear that any institute, or religious of roman catholics are not in the business of conversion. Roman catholics are having education institute, hospitals jus in social work. There are many hindus who have studied in these institute and might have treated in these hospitals too.... but never heard that there was any conversion yet? ...

yet anyone heard about the conversion in these catholic institute my dears?..no.... Even I am the one, against conversion by these groups who are spoiling the name and they are trying to convert roman catholics also. People have suffered and become insane for centuries by the thought of eternal punishment after death. Wouldn't it be better to depend on blind matter than by a god who puts out traps for people, invites them to sin, and allows them to sin and commit crimes he could prevent. Only to finally get the barbarian pleasure to punish them in an excessive way, of no use for himself, without them changing their ways and without their example preventing others from committing crimes.

The religious conversion in South Kanara is not a light issue. The editor should collect complete information and then publish such reports. The story here explains a 14 year old boy disappear last year and then come back three months back for this date and then you have a report that he was away becasue he was forced to run away and forced to convert.

You should find the version of the so called accused Pravin. We are really tired of these type stories that end up as false and bogus. They should do a medical of this boy and check whether he was fed for these days, and is he mentally sound today and also three months back.
