Udupi, Apr 11: Police have arrested two rowdy sheeters for their involvement in anti-social activities across various police station limits in the district, ahead of the upcoming elections. The arrested individuals have been detained under the Goonda Act.
Ravi alias Ravichandra, son of N A Nagaraj, a resident of Byndoor, has multiple cases registered against him at Byndoor police station, Hiriadka police station, and other police stations in Dakshina Kannada, Karwar, and Shivamogga districts. Since 1996, he has been involved in 21 criminal cases, including assault, robbery, theft, attempted murder, kidnap, and communal unrest.
Saifuddin, son of Abdul Khader and a resident of Udupi, has rowdy sheeter cases registered against him at Hiriadka and Udupi police stations. Since 1995, he has been involved in 19 cases, including murder, attempted murder, assault, robbery, theft, and cheating. He also has a gang of 34 accomplices.
Considering the potential threat they pose to society and the likelihood of them disrupting law and order during the elections, the deputy commissioner has issued orders for their arrest under the Goonda Act. Ravi has been imprisoned at Central Prison in Kalaburagi, and Saifuddin alias Saifu has been imprisoned at Central Prison in Belagavi.
