Beltangady, Apr 12: In the light of the upcoming Assembly elections, the officials are keeping a close watch to ensure that no excise activity takes place. The officials during their patrol confiscated liquor that was being sold illegally by a person named Ratnakar in Kasaba Kellaguttu of Beltangady.
The operation was conducted under the direction of joint commissioner of Mangaluru excise and district excise deputy commissioner along with excise sub-inspectors of Bantwal sub-division and excise inspectors of Beltangady division. However, the accused Ratnakar managed to escape from the scene.
The excise officials seized in total 17,280 litres of liquor and registered a complaint against the accused. The officials also seized a vehicle and the total value of the seized goods has been put at Rs 3,31,720. Further investigations are being conducted by Beltangady sub-inspector Syed Shabir.
Meanwhile, in another operation, the police have seized liquor that were being sold illegally by Shashidhar in Neerchelume of Ujire village who reportedly escaped from the hands of the police. The police seized 8,640 litres of liquor that were in the possession of Shashidhar and registered a complaint against him. The police also seized the vehicle that was used by the accused. The value of the seized goods is put at Rs 1,53,360. Further investigations are being conducted by excise sub-inspector Naveen Kumar.
