Udupi, Apr 12: "I have been hurt by the way the party has treated me," said Raghupati Bhat, the three-time MLA of Udupi constituency.
Bhat broke into tears while speaking to the media after he was denied ticket by the BJP.
Speaking to media at his residence, Bhat said, "I am not sad over the party's decision but hurt the way the party has treated me. Not even the district president called and informed me. I learnt that I have been denied a ticket through TV news. Is that the way I should know about the decision of the party? Amit Shah had called and informed Jagadish Shettar about the changes. I do not expect Amit Shah to call me and inform but at least the district president should have done it. If I have been denied ticket just due to my caste, I will not agree to it.
“Today, the BJP has grown in leaps and bounds everywhere. Hence, I think the party does not want me now. I have worked tirelessly for the party in the coastal districts. Currently, I am not in any position to take further decisions. I am literally shocked. From yesterday, till early morning today, the party workers were calling me and enquiring about the situation. I have worked for the party in its hardest times also. I am thankful for the opportunities the party has given to me. Yashpal Suvarna is my boy. I have only supported him to grow in the party. Further decisions will be taken later on,” he said.
Hundreds of followers of Raghupati Bhat had gathered near his residence and were awaiting his decision.
