Bantwal, April 12: A bike rider died at Jakribettu when his bike collided with a KSRTC bus.
The deceased is 30-year-old Sarapady resident Sesappa, also known as Sreyas. He was unmarried and employed as a driver in a private company.
The accident occurred when he was returning home after work. Sreyas was travelling to his Sarapady residence from B C Road on the Dharmastala highway. The government bus, speeding towards Dharmastala, lost control and collided with Sreyas' bike approaching from the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision severely damaged the bike, and Sreyas sustained critical injuries. He was immediately taken to Bantwal government hospital and later transferred to Mangaluru via 108 ambulance. However, he succumbed to his injuries during the ambulance ride, according to hospital sources.
Traffic SI Murthy visited the scene and registered a case.
Despite precautionary measures, the widening of the B C Road - Dharmastala state highway has seen an increase in accidents. The local MLA, who recently arrived with officers, suggested the installation of speed breakers near curves and wherever necessary to prevent accidents. However, the locals lament that accidents have not decreased.
