BJP fields ex-IPS officer Bhaskar Rao from Chamarajpet in bid to wrest seat after 3 decades

Bengaluru, Apr 12 (IANS): The Karnataka BJP has fielded former IPS officer Bhaskar Rao as its candidate from the Chamarajpet Assembly constituency in Bengaluru in a bid to wrest the seat where victory has remained elusive for the saffron party for the past three decades.

In the May 10 Assembly polls, Rao is up against the Congress' B.Z. Zameer Ahmad Khan, a former minister and close aide of Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, who's a four-time sitting MLA from the Chamarajpet Assembly constituency.

The only time the BJP won the seat was way back in 1994 when its Pramila Nesargi was victorious.

Rao, who had waged a war against the drug mafia during his stint as the Bengaluru police commissioner, recently joined the BJP from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Speaking to reporters here, Rao expressed confidence about the BJP wresting the seat this time.

"I will work hard to seek everyone's support and confidence. I have joined the BJP because of ideology and nationalism. In the last 30 years, the BJP has not won Chamarajpet constituency. I am not a new person here, I am a resident in this constituency."

The answer to all questions will be given by the people on May 10, polling day, he said. When asked about chances of dissent in the constituency, Bhaskar Rao maintained that there is no dissidence in the party. "I will meet the leaders and convince them if at all there is any problem. All leaders have extended support and I have confidence of achieving victory with united effort," he added.

"Extremely grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, CM Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh, State President Nalin Kumar Kateel and Union Minister for Coal, Mine and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi sirs for reposing trust in me to represent Chamarajpet," stated Rao.

Will he force his party to stop high inflation, unemployment, daylight robbery through toll booths? Will he sit on dharna to reduce gas price hike back to 2014 level? If not better to vote for those who guarantee them. Chamchagiri only works in central command controlled parties, we are seeing use and throw culture in selecting candidates to contest. Vote for people with spine and those who work for people and not a party with 40% cut.

"I have joined BJP because of ideology and nationalism" he says. What was his ideology when he was in AAP until the other day? If he joins INC then suddenly the ideology changes from communalism to secularism This kind of men exist without any principles and ethics as long as people allow themselves to be taken for a ride.

Correctly said - the thief is bhaskar Rao. No wonder he resigned due to his involvement in a ‘scam’ when he was in police. Ask him why he jumped from AAP to the current party? Is it because he would be washed white with orange colour? Or is it because of f his religion? Or is it because he got a call from IT, CBI? Think before you comment.
