Bantwal: Police seize 10 tonnes of rice being transported illegally

Bantwal, Apr 13: Police confiscated 20 bags of rice that was being transported in a goods vehicle without proper documents and 180 bags of rice that was stored in a warehouse. In total the quantity of the seized rice is 10 tonnes.

PSI Sandeep Kumar and personnel were checking vehicles at Marakkini Kuddupadavu of Kasaba village at Vittal on Tuesday night. They intercepted a truck that was carrying rice. On inquiry, the driver said that the rice belongs to godown of Haneef at Marikkini of Kepu village. However, driver Mohammed Ali did not show any relevant documents for the rice in the truck. So both vehicle and the rice was confiscated.

Police said that there were 20 bags of rice weighing 50 kilos each. When the godown at Marakkini was raided, nine tonnes of rice stacked in 180 bags was found. So in total 10 tonnes of rice worth Rs 3.3 lac is seized. Including the truck, the value of the seized goods is Rs 6.30 lac.
