Mangaluru, Apr 15: District administration of Dakshina Kannada (DK) is attempting a unique method to attract voters to cast their votes. The polling booths are decorated with paintings of cultural art of the region.
Officials have begun working immediately after the announcement of election dates and implementation of election code of conduct. They are making all efforts to see that every voter partakes in the election festival of democracy.
There are eight legislative constituencies in DK district. The SVEEP team has decided to get 100 polling booths with paintings related to cultural art of the coastal region. Some of the polling centres are already painted, a good one month before the poll.
Yakshagana art is loved by every person residing in the coastal region. It has got music, dance and acting. So the sweep team has chosen the art for the paintings on the walls of polling booths.
In addition to Yakshagana, the sweep team has chosen three more themes of Blue Wave polling booth, Go Green polling booth and Kambala polling booth.
On the whole, the Election Commission is trying to increase the percentage of voting in coastal regions through this unique experiment.
