Sullia, Apr 16: The compound wall of Muthu Mariamma temple near Nellikumeri of Sampaje in the taluk was demolished by wild elephants on the morning of Saturday.
The pachyderms also destroyed plantain crops and broke the cement sheets.
This is not the first time that the temple has been targeted by wild elephants. Last year, a lone tusker had demolished the Katte of the outer campus of the temple.
The locals complain that the forest department has not taken any action to address the repeated attacks by wild elephants in the Sampaje area.
