Mangaluru, Apr 20: The public is having a difficult time to get works done at government offices as there are no officials and staff due to legislative assembly elections.
Though some are deputed for election duty, other officials are not attending offices in the excuse of election duty.
Only a handful of lower level staffs are available in important departments like revenue, city corporation, taluk office and health offices. It is inevitable that the public has to wait till the elections are over to get their work done.
Most of the government officials are deputed to flying squad and check posts. People who go to government offices are sent back saying that no staff is available due to election duty.
Social worker G K Bhat says, “During elections public faces lots of inconvenience as the government officials are deputed to election related duties. When deputing officials for elections duty, those who are working in necessary departments like revenue, taluk panchayat, gram panchayat and health department should be excluded. Election commission should consider this matter as serious.”
As it is hot summer, drinking water shortage is faced by public in almost all areas. No one is taking care of supplying water. Certificates of RTC, caste, income are not available. Ration card corrections are not happening. MGNREGA related works are stalled as PDOs of gram panchayats are deputed to election duty. Taxes are not collected in city corporations. House construction permission is not given by MUDA. Personnel of health education, police, ASHA and Anganwadi are deputed for election work. All the office work is pending for the same reason. Work related to registration of land and houses is not taking place. Many revenue disputes are pending at taluk and district levels. Even guest lecturers are deputed to election duty. This has hampered the valuation of second PU answer papers.
