Udupi: Lady Complains of Impersonation through Facebook

Udupi, Jul 6: A woman from Manipal has filed a complaint of cyber crime in Manipal police station.

The complainant, identified as Nimra Anvis, resident of Mandavi Pearl City complex in Manipal, has stated that unidentified persons have opened facebook account in her name by using her photograph and other details, and caused harm to her reputation by befriending 51 persons through the account and chatting with them by making them believe that they were conversing with her.

She has accused the concerned of misrepresentation in opening the above account in her name. She recently came to know that someone has been misusing the social networking site through deceitful impersonation with the intention of cheating others on the net, she has claimed.

The police have registered the case and begun investigation.

    Its really bad that people try to miss use the social network,they are just not bothered how it will reflect on others life,There should be some strict action towards this.

    Social Networking , Anonymous Email Services, Telephone Booths, Cyber Cafes, Voip phones are serious threat to the public and for the country. Slowly all will realize how dangerous these technologies and we need to create lots of awareness with the public. Especially our kids must know the pros and cons of these technologies. In the above case someone misused poor girls name and created face book account.. However most of them do not know that, millions of pictures used in Facebook profiles are utilized by illegal sites for creating illegal sites, illegal passports, credit cards in different countries!!! We must be careful when we allow others to access our personal details, pictures... Keep your family and friends privacy away from these sites if you really care for them.

    Impersonation is there in the social networking and online media.Recently in Asianet TV, there was one hour episode concerning the issue which was very informative & interesting.Such kind of character assassination should be checked,stopped and need to be punished by Cyber police.
