Mangalore, Jul 6: ‘Aadhar’ a unique identity number registration campaign was launched at the head post office in Pandeshwar here, on Wednesday July 6.

Citizens can now get a biometric identity card under the union government's unique identity number project. The card, named ‘Aadhar’, made by the Unique Identity Development Authority of India (UIDAI), can be received from Pandeshwar post office after submitting the relevant documents.

This scheme was launched by additional DC Prabhakar Sharma symbolically. Speaking on the occasion, he said that obstacles found during the distribution of voter id should be overcome this time while availing the national identity card. He requested citizens to obtain UIDAI cards and make the project a success.

The UIDAI biometric card, which carries a unique 12 digit number, will be issued free of charge. It will be useful for opening a bank account, to obtain new mobile connections, withdraw NREGS money, to obtain insurance policies, to obtain ration cards and for use in other procedures where producing identity and address proof is mandatory.

J K Rao, Lions district governor, and postal department senior officer T G Nayak were also present.

    "Fingerprinting" and "IRIS" scan are gross invasion of privacy. Are all citizens criminals????. As one reader points out, this is an "electronic eye" on an individual just like WESTERN COUNTRIES. They know who you are, where you are, what you do, and your movements and actions. In essence this is a type of "policing" in the name of helping the poor, in the name of aadhaar. One ID with a "photo only" is okay but several IDs and cards is waste of national resources and hassle for citizens and poor planning.

    Issuing of ID card or the process of making the card done properly. should not be like the Voters card. subletting the contract to incompetent persons to make the card will make this noble task farce.

    I appreciate if the Traffic Department also comes out with similar systems as followed in western countries:
    Compulsory Yearly Registration of Vehicles
    Compulsory Yearly Vehicle Inspection for efficiency
    Better initiative in Vehicle insurance claims and management etc
    This would bring more revenue to the department to maintain and Widen the roads to have better road transport system. This would also help in bringing down certain amount of corruption in the country. These are the few very important steps which would develop the country towards better safety, security and corruption free.
    This is the only way we can together bring down the corruption in the country to a large extent.

    I think this is a wonderful step taken by UIDAI. A very very useful move and I was waiting for this since long. We need to initiate these kind of new steps inorder to develop our nation. I think we need to follow western countries and the developed countries fast in the unique technologies they follow.

    This National ID should be made compulsory to all the citizens. As KT, Mangalore said, it should be initiated to a new born baby in the hospital itself along with the birth certificate.

    We need to have a single online software for national ID wherein all the following documents should be clubbed together in the ID card chip memory:

    * Passport No
    * Ration Card No
    * Voters ID Card No
    * PAN Card No
    * Driving Licence No
    * Birth Certificate No
    * Marriage Registration No
    * Both hands & each fingers scanning
    * Head skelton and Eye scanning(Can differenciate according with people handicappped)
    Etc etc

    This software should have access to all the major departments like CID, Police, Traffic Police, Anti-Terrorism Police, Income Tax Dept, etc etc. People should be made compulsory to move along with this ID Card. I agree with Roshan Madtha Vittla, Mangalore rightly said, this would initially effect the privacy, but will have more advantages as this would fight back the corruption to large extent. This is the only way we can bring down the corruption in the country and not with satyagraha and slogans.

    If there is political will, this unique ID system can be utilized well for a variety of good causes such as reaching the benefits of govt scheme to the right people, curbing black money by identifying the benami deals , controlling of crime by getting the criminals(normally the crimals are repeated offenders, etc and etc. But who is bothered about social evils????

    These cards will steal people’s privacy going forward.

    Govt will make mandate this card for all transactions there will be a day where people will be watched from electronic eye on their movement and there won’t be any privacy

    Yeah not a bad initiative, but please try to adopt this to the new born population and not for the existing one's. Ration card was a big flop and atleast let the coming generation take advantage of it...so tht thr wont be chances of any frauds in future

    Issue of rationcard is incomplete. I have not yet got it,in spite of living continuously in Mangalore for 52 years. I'm repeatedly told by the ration dept in Mangalore that 971 sticker card series is not yet completed. My sticker card No is 9715222.Because of nonissue of card I'm deprived of the ration available under the card. Moreover, I'm a Govt servant. Why not issue rationcards on such identity also. UIDAI may probably be no better than issue of rationcard. May I REQUEST THE CONCERNED TO FINISH ISSUE OF PENDING RATIONCARDS FIRST BEFORE STARTING A ENTIRELY NEW PROCESS.
