Doha: MCA ‘Voice Workshop’ Sees Active Participation of Talented Singers

Media Release

Doha, Jul 6: Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA), Doha, organized the third ‘Voice Workshop’ recently at Doha Grand Hotel. This workshop was conducted by ‘Sangeeth Guru’ Joel Pereira, who had flown in from Mangalore for this purpose. The workshop began at 10 am with the MCA Anthem. MCA President Harry Lobo welcomed everyone while Arthur Pais introduced Pereira.

The session continued till 5 pm. It was a very interesting and enlightening session with lots of information about the different aspects of music and singing and the participants enjoyed every bit. Different breathing exercises were taught and practiced and attendees were briefed on different types of ‘Ragas’ of Indian music.

More importance was given to light music which is commonly used for Konkani music. In the post lunch session, each singer got a chance to exhibit their song and Pereira along with Edward Sequeira, a senior Konkani artist, evaluated the positive as well as the negative points in their singing. The feedback received from every individual participant was very positive and they urged the organizers to conduct more such workshops in the near future.

Lunch was served to all present and certificates of appreciation were awarded to all participants by MCA president Harry Lobo.

MCA will host the next season of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ in October 2012. Other future programmes of the MCA are ‘Monti Fest’ celebrations and traditional ‘Noven Jevan’ on Saturday September 10, at Indian Cultural Centre and ‘Wilfy Nite – A Tribute to Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus’ on October 21, 2011 at Doha Cinema.
