 Kundapur: 83-year-old Prabhu Hotel to Turn into 'Delicious' Memory

Udupi, Jul 7: Prabhu Hotel located at Kota, near here, which catered to a wide clientele for over 83 years, will soon be relegated to memory as it will be razed for four-lane work on the national highway.




Prabhu Hotel was established by the late Devanna Prabhu in 1928.  His children Dayanand Prabhu and Mohandas Prabhu continued the family business after his demise.  The thatched roof of the hotel was converted into a tiled roof in 1969.  The late Devanna Prabhu’s youngest son Kamalaksha Prabhu was managing the hotel till recently.  The taste of their unique plain dosa and other eatables will soon become just a memory.

“I am advancing in age and also tired of running the business.  The hotel business had to be wound up due to the razing of the building to pave way for the four-lane highway,” says 72-year-old Kamalaksha. He acknowledges the patronage of customers over all these years.

    Goli Bage, Poorji Baaji and Buns are the famous dishes of this Prabhu Restaurent. Mr. Prabhu should continue his business in some other location. He should keep alive his Brand and reciep. Or he should sell his brand to the intrested one and tranfer the knowledge of secret receip. Specially in the village level people are not thinking much about development and expantion of business.

    Goli Baje, Dosa, Rasayana Nice....

    I used to eat them lot when I was in india....

    NoPizzaHut,KFC,McDonald,Chillies,Popeyes,Wendys, can come close to Goli Baje.....

    Goli bajje during winter due original hot and tasty green chilly and year round Dosa is check list of eateries of Prabhu hotel. I miss it permenantly

    Hi,
    Guess the present owner seems too old to take this business forward....
    If not, such incidences like laying of new roads / widening of roads comes as a good opportunity to spread the business.
    I remember reading once that KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) had a similar situation.
    The KFC center that had good business suddenly was empty as a new shorter road stopped travelers passing by this particular centre.
    Instead of winding up that the customers were not coming to him, the owner instead went to the customer by opening newer outlets on the newer road and all over.
    What a initiative which has lead them to have such a BIG Chain of outlets today.
    Perhaps someone known to the Prabhu hotel family could advice them to start out afresh atleast then to be like the Kamath hotels chain or the MTR etc...

    One great hotel is this. But sad that it would remain only a history once it is demolished for the highway extension. The taste of Dosa is ultimate and one can relish a perfect eat at this place. Price is well justified against the taste and what we pay for it is still too less. Making a stop over at this hotel was a must for me at any given time.
