Mangaluru, Apr 25: "The democracy and the Constitution of India are in danger during the regime of BJP in the state and as well as at the Centre," said AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.
He was speaking to the district Congress party workers at TMA Pai Hall here on Tuesday, April 25.
Kharge urged party workers to put aside any differences and focus on the upcoming elections, aiming to remove the anti-people party from power. He also questioned the rapid increase in assets of Adani, which went from Rs 50,000 crores in 2014 to Rs 2 lakh crores in 2020 and then twelve lakh crores in just two years. He accused the Modi government of providing undue support to Adani and a few other wealthy individuals, privatizing government-affiliated institutions such as airports and railways, and handing over the common working class's provident funds to them, among other things.
Kharge also mocked Modi, asking him to share the magic he used to increase Adani's assets with other industrialists. Kharge criticized Modi's habit of taking Adani and other wealthy people with him when he travels abroad, as he promotes their businesses. He also accused the Rajya Sabha of demanding an apology from him after he questioned these actions. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also raised similar questions in the Lok Sabha, but Modi could not provide any answers.
Kharge accused the government of flouting constitutional norms and not working for the people's welfare. The event was attended by former minister Abaychandra Jain, former MLC Ivan D'Souza, KPCC secretary R Padmaraj, DCC Women Congress president Shalet Pinto, and others. Kharge was felicitated on behalf of DCC, and DCC president Harishkumar welcomed attendees, while MLC Manjunath Bhandary delivered the keynote address.
