Yamakanamaradi/Belagavi, Apr 26: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai claimed that the more Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visit Karnataka for the Congress campaign, the more it will benefit the ruling BJP. He made the statement while addressing a ruling BJP election meeting at Yamakanamaradi in Belagavi on Wednesday.
Bommai also mentioned that the BJP will be happy wherever Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi come to the state for campaigning as the Congress has lost wherever they have visited.
He further stated that the BJP is happy to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to come and boost their campaign.
The Chief Minister referred to the coming election as historic and asserted that the double-engine government led by Modi is working for the development of the nation. He added that those who want development will support the double-engine government, while those who don't want development will vote for the Congress Party.
Bommai highlighted that the double-engine government has constructed 6,000 km of roads at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore. The Belagavi-Kuduchi railway line is being converted into a double line, and the Kisan Sanman scheme has become possible due to the double-engine government.
He also criticized the Congress party by mentioning that the party is synonymous with corruption. He claimed that the Congress indulged in corruption in BDA and the purchase of mattresses and pillows for SC/ST students. He added that the former Siddaramaiah refused to implement internal reservation due to the fear of backlash.
Later, addressing a meeting after holding a roadshow for the Hukkeri BJP candidate Nikhil Katti, Bommai said Umesh Katti had an unbroken winning streak. Umesh had represented the Hukkeri constituency for nine consecutive terms and never lost in a single election. Bommai added that Umesh Katti had a lot of concern for farmers and started a sugar factory because the sugarcane grown by the farmers of this region should not leave the taluk. As Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Umesh wanted the distribution of jawar in north Karnataka and millet in south Karnataka through PDS.
Bommai said there are two sugar mills in this region, and the farmers of this region must develop. The one and only Electric Co-Operative Society in independent India must continue, and this is possible with the victory of Nikhil Katti. He added that the overall development of this region is possible if both Nikhil and Ramesh Katti win in the coming Assembly polls.
He concluded that what the Congress failed to do all these years has been achieved by the incumbent BJP government. The quota for the Panchamasali community has been hiked.
