Mangaluru, Apr 27: Two people including a student were fleeced in separate online fraud incidents to the tune of Rs 1.36 lac.
In the first incident, a student was cheated for Rs 28,400 by a fraudster who kept an advertisement on Google Chrome for laptop sale at reduced price.
The student was searching on Google Chrome material related to his course, when he came across an advertisement of laptop sale for low price. When he clicked he advertisement, WhatsApp page with mobile number 9982246682 opened up.
A stranger who called the student from the same mobile number said that he will give HP brand laptop for just Rs 12000 and asked the student to send Rs 400 to book the order. Accordingly the student sent Rs 400. Later, the stranger made the student believe that he will give the laptop and asked him to send Rs 28400 in various phases. Even after sending Rs 28,400, the person was pursuing the student to send more money. A case in this connection is registered in CEN police station of the city.
In the second incident, a person was fleeced for Rs 1.08 lac by an online fraudster on the pretext of part time job.
On February 9, the victim got a Google link message from +9929883933 mobile number and asked him to download Telegram app. Accordingly, the complainant downloaded Telegram app. Later, the stranger asked the victim to complete 10 tasks in order to double the money.
First, the stranger deposited Rs 150 to the account of the victim. Later, he asked the victim to send Rs 1,500. Stranger also sent a link and asked the victim to give details to open an account. Accordingly, the victim sent Rs 1,000 and also mentioned the OTP. Then the stranger got Rs 1.08 lac transferred in different transactions. A case is filed with CEN police station.
