Bengaluru, Apr 27: Congress opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah has urged the Central Election Commission of India (ECI) to immediately intervene and prevent Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje from participating in ruling BJP’s electoral campaign activities.
Releasing copies of the letter written by Shobha, who is also heads State BJP Election Committee, asking all the party units to identify and write to her about the election booths where Central Security Forces to be deployed in the guise of ensuring security.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of ECI, the former Congress Chief Minister wanted to know who is conducting the State Assembly elections and wondered whether it is the ECI or the ruling BJP.
How can BJP decide which are sensitive and very sensitive booths and seek information from its party units in the assembly constituencies to write to the committee headed by the BJP Union Minister to recommend deployment of para military forces ostensibly to provide security, Siddaramaiah asked.
The Congress leader alleged that the letter written by Shobha Karandlaje gives the impression that the ruling BJP wants deployment of Central Security Forces in booths where the ruling BJP is unlikely to get votes and thereby prevent the voters from participating in the voting.
The Chief Election Commissioner and ECI must immediately intervene and interrogate Shobha Karandlaje and obtain all the information collected by her from the BJP leaders and candidates and ensure that the Union Minister is prevented from participating in election campaign on behalf of BJP, Siddaramaiah asked.
