Bengaluru, Apr 27: The very fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been compelled to speak about the Congress party’s pre-poll guarantees proves the nervousness of ruling BJP and fear of total defeat in the assembly elections, said KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Addressing a news conference at the Congress Bhavan, he reminded Modi and BJP leaders that the Congress party has not promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in each person’s bank account, create 2 crore jobs per year and doubling of farmers income.
“Our Congress Guarantees pertain to the basic needs of the people and their problems. What we have promised to do through the Four Guarantees is supplying 200 units of free power to all domestic consumers per month, cash payment of Rs 2000 each per housewife per month to woman heading households, 10 kg of rice per head per month under Annabhagya and cash allowance of Rs 3,000 per month to all graduate unemployed youth and Rs 1,500 per month per unemployed diploma holders,’’ he said and promised that unlike the BJP the Congress will keep its promises.
Shivakumar said the Prime Minister does not know about the BJP promises in 2018 of waiving farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh, 7 to10 hour power supply to farmers for their IP sets and a host of other promises which remain only on paper during the last four years.
The KPCC chief said Modi and BJP leaders had asked the voters to bow their heads before the LPG cylinders in 2014 to protest against the rise in prices during the UPA rule. “We are asking the voters to do the same now as the domestic LPG prices have crossed Rs 1100,’’ he said.
Shivakumar said the Congress party will take a decision on implementing the 4 guarantees of Gruhajyothi, Gruhalakshmi, Annabhagya and Yuvanidhi at the first cabinet meeting after coming to power. “If we don’t keep our promise, we will not go before people to seek votes,’’ he declared.
The KPCC Chief appealed to all rebel Congress candidates to retire from contest in the next 2 to 3 days and extend their support to the official candidates. All those, who remain in the fray defying party’s directions will be dealt with as per rules,’’ he said.
Shivakumar said veteran leaders like P G R Sindhia and Narayanagowda, who had contested against him in the past, have joined the party. Many leaders from different parties are joining the Congress as the defeat of BJP is imminent, he asserted.
