Mangaluru, Apr 27: “if Congress gets re-elected it will provide free travel in public transport vehicles for all women in the state on the day the party forms the government," announced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a massive rally in Adyar here on Thursday, April 27, he said prime minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had not fulfilled the promises made to the people. But, he said this time if Congress is voted to power in the state the party will not fulfill just four promises but it will instead fulfil five promises.
On the occasion, Rahul Gandhi also said, "If the Congress party comes to power then on the first day of the cabinet formation we will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Karnataka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also fulfill the promises he had made to the people of India,” said.
He also said that the BJP had come to power indirectly through the operation lotus and that the people of the state had not given them a clear mandate to rule the state.
“Corruption, price rise, and unemployment are the BJP’s contributions to the state,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He said a BJP MLA had stated the chief minister’s position was reserved to anyone who could spend Rs 2500 crore. The Contractors Association had written a letter to the PM about the 40% commission for all the contracts demanded by BJP's MLAs but the Prime Minister had neither bothered to read the letter nor reply to it, Rahul Gandhi said.
He predicted that the Congress will win 150 seats in Karnataka and give 40 seats to the incumbent BJP party as it is a 40% commission government. He said no party in the state can stop the Congress from getting elected to form the government.
Rahul Gandhi reiterated that he had been questioning the relationship and the corruption deals between PM Modi and industrialist Adani which was reason for his disqualification as a Lok Sabha member.
"You will fulfill the promises of Adani but not promises made to the people of the country," he quipped.
Congress has an old relationship with Mangaluru city. The Mangalore Port was built during Indira Gandhi's regime. The Mangalore International Airport and MRPL among others were the contributions of the Congress. Four banks based in Mangaluru were the pride of the nation but they were all merged with other banks, he said.
Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar and other party leaders B K Hariprasad, M Veerappa Moily and Shakunthala Shetty among others were also present.
