Beltangady, Jul 8: Protests are taking place in every nook and corner of the country, and children of a high school here decided to join the bandwagon on Friday July 8, demanding the recall of their headmaster.

Laxman Shetty, headmaster of Bangady high school here, was suspended by the zilla panchayat CEO on the orders of the DC, after members of DYFI alleged that he was collecting extra fee from parents in the name development of the school.

They alleged that he was giving the parents fake receipts for the fee and also storing away the children's bicycles in a godown.

However, the school authorities refute the charges, stating the fee he collected was as per a decision taken at a parent-teachers' meeting, wherein the parents were asked to pay Rs 250 for the repair work of the school building and Rs 50 as exam fee. They added that the fee was not mandatory on all, and it was left to the parents whether they wished to pay the amount. Also, it had been decided that if anyone paid extra out of goodwill towards the school, a receipt would be given as acknowledgement.

Members of DYFI, alleging that Laxman Shetty was demanding extra fee and giving fake receipts in exchange, complained to the deputy commissioner who directed the zilla panchayat CEO to suspend the headmaster along with another staff Raju.

The school authorities say that no investigation followed the suspension order, and committee members insist that Shetty had done no wrong and whatever fee was collected was legal and for the betterment of the school alone.

On Friday at 9 am, the children boycotted their classes and chanted slogans demanding their teacher's recall. DYFI termed their protest as an attempt by the school authorities to drag children into the politics of the school and make use of them for their own vested interest.

Later, the officials of the education department arrived at the school and police too intervened to put an end to the boycott.

Corruption is everywhere. Parents are sending their children to school in a intension of learning good things not only the education.Demanding extra fees, issuing fake receipts etc making anyone gets angry, its a fooling job to students as well as parents. If it was agreed by everyone to collect some extra payment for the the school developmental work and that too it was not mandatory on all then why this dispute? ofcourse there is politics involved in this.To solve this problem proper investgation is required not suspending the head master of the school just like that. And whoever is involved in this politics must be punished also need to take the legal action against them.School authorities and the Education department should not teach politics or by either ways don't be the cause for politics to these innocent students they have to stand for building a beautiful tomorrow its in your hand now.

It is not the question of collecting funds, the repair works were not given to contractor approved by the DC & CEO. Atleast arrange their cut and no action will be taken.

If money is collected for the betterment of school, which is decided by the parent/teachers / school commitee meeting, then it is very much appreciable. Why DYFI is politicing the school. Before suspending any staff is any enquiry conducted by the authorities? if any one is guilty then only authorities can suspend the staffs. please dont politice school dear DYFI'S..

What happens to the fund collected by way of education cess from all citizens from karnataka as indirect tax levy applied on sales tax, service tax, income tax and excise duty. Since this is a levy on indirect tax even poorest of poor also contribute to this fund on whatever they pruchase. May be this government eating that also in addition the mines and land. Why this state children and parents need to contribute extra. Is this government is incapable to develop the schools. This shows how messy the Karnataka state finances are.

In DK, any incidents politicalized before the merits of the case was discussed. If HM was guilty in collecting extra amount from the students, that should be probed. The incident of wrong doing will be buried under the carpet of political involvement. The place is exactly belongs to stalwart and senior politician and ex Minister Gangadhara Gowda....Let us see where this case will going to end?

Whatever may be the case, involving tender minds in boycotting the classes is not a good sign. May be the headmaster is guilty, but suspending him is not the solution. Conduct inquiry and impose a penalty.
