Mangalore: Corporation Bank Suspends Ads Featuring Ashwini Akkunji

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 9: Public sector Corporation Bank having its headquarters in the city, has withdrawn advertisement features involving its brand ambassador, Ashwini Chidanand Shetty Akkunji. The athletics icon, who had won gold medals in Commonwealth and Asian Games, has been in the eye of storm since the doping controversy surfaced.

Corporation Bank general manager, B R Bhat, explained that it has been decided to stop advertisement cut-outs featuring Aswhini, as the bank feels that her continuance may bring disrepute the bank besides delivering wrong message to the youth. He said that the decision will be in vogue for the present. “Normally, the bank changes the ambassadors in advertisements once in 15 days. By coincidence, Ashwini’s was being portrayed in the bank advertisements currently,” he explained.

As far as Ashwini’s employment with the bank is concerned, Bhat confirmed that she will continue to be in the bank’s services now. He said that the bank awaits the result of the doping test on the second sample. “It is left to the Indian government either to retain her or to remove her from our rolls. The bank will initiate departmental proceedings depending on the decision the Sports Authority of India takes on the basis of the report on ‘B’ sample. The proceedings will be held as per the laid down procedures of the bank,” he narrated.

The bank had chosen the sprinter as its brand ambassador and employed her as the manager in March this year, taking cognizance of her achievements in the field of sports.

Durgadas Suvarna, MLORE/BLORE, bcz of congress you learnt English, else still would have been using typewritter instead of Computer. Would have travelled on a Tanga instead of Car. Our Country is super power bcz of congress and its developments, BJP is famous only for its corruption scandals and denotifications. Even if you wait for another 500yrs too no use, you know it very well my dear. Keep dreaming, keep voting BJP, your vote makes Yeddy richer day by day.. All developments In Karnataka is with central govt funds.

I feel the Bank's decision is some what "justified" at this juncture of time because Corporation Bank is a "Premier Government of India Enterprise"!!!.
So we need to wait till the "B" sample reports are out!!! to pass any kind of comments. Let's not jump into any conclusion!!!

I sympathise with Ashwini. However bank has done right thing on its part. Bank has recognised her acheivements and honoured her. How can they have a tainted sportsperson as their Brand Ambassador. As they said it gives wrong messange to the public. Hope Ashwini will come out clean and bank will reinstate her.

Poor Ashwini, my heart goes out to her humiliation for no fault of hers. Congress, BJP, SJP JD or whoever it is cannot wipe out the tear of this girl who brought laurels to the country. There are many such athletes who suffer in the hands of these spiteful culprits who play on the innocent lives of athletes. Pray that Lokpal Bill is activated asap, atleast then justice can prevail for these oppressed ones...

So sad.. because of the negligence of Indian athletic board poor athlets are becoming the victims. Team Coach, Physiso, Nutritian should be questioned in this case & proper action to be taken on the culprits.

Corporation Bank will regret for its dicision. I feel pity for this girl. Its so hard to attain a good name and respect but takes just 1 second to loose. Central govt must work seriousely on this case, to get justice for all the girls. God bless Ashwini, God only can save her, everything is possible for God. He can change things in matter of minutes, please show your powers and bring justice.

Another shocking news to Ashwini.May be worse than Doping controversy. It is not Aswhini's fault.Full blame should go to Russian coach. She was not involved in anti-national activities or match fixing issue. She might have taken drugs thruogh food/tablets recommended by coach.Ashwini and other athelets need support from people.Otherwise we are going to do injustice to our youngsters. My sympathy with Ashwini and her parents.
