Beltangady, May 3: Dharmasthala police have arrested four persons and recovered more than Rs 3 lac worth of batteries and other goods that were stolen from various schools including the Government School in Kokkada village in separate incidents.
The accused arrested are identified as Rakshit D (24), a resident of Kutrapadi, Theerthesh M (29), a resident of Kadaba Meenaadi, Yajnesh U K (30), a resident of Kadaba Urumbi and Rohith H Shetty (23), a resident of Hallimane.
Eight batteries valued at Rs 3.2 lacs which were lying idle at Kokkada Government School were stolen according to a complaint filed by headmaster in-charge Hallikeri Prabhakar Nayak with the Dharmasthala police. A police team comprising sub-inspector Anil Kumar and Renuka went in search of vital clues and were successful in nabbing the accused.
The accused had stolen batteries from four government schools under the Uppinangady police limits, two government schools in Subrahmanya limits, and one government school each in Puttur town, Bantwal and Dharmasthala police limits respectively. The police have in all recovered batteries valued at more than Rs 2 lac from nine government schools and seized a car used for the purpose. The accused have been produced before the court.
