Beltangady, May 4: "Holding mass marriage is not an easy task. I have a close connection with Dharmasthala because my marriage took place here," said Kannada film Aactor Darshan Thoogudeepa.
He was addressing gathering during the mass marriage ceremony organised by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala under the guidance of Dr D Veerendra Heggade. As many as 201 couples tied the knot on Wednesday May 3.
“Blessings of lord Manjunatheshwara and Veerendra Heggade will make your life prosperous,” said the actor.
Darshan was felicitated on this occasion. Dr D Veerendra Heggade also spoke during this occasion and blessed the couples.
Hemavathi Heggade, Surendra Kumar, Harshendra Kumar, Supriya Harshendra Kumar and others were present.
The wedding ceremonies were held as per the tradition and customs of the couple. All expenses were borne by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Dharmothana Trust. The trust provided dhoti and shawl to the groom and the bride was given a sari, blouse and Mangalsutra. Heggade introduced this scheme in 1972 to prevent dowry and unnecessary expenses on weddings. So far, 12,576 couples have entered wedlock under this scheme.
