Mangaluru May 7: In a significant development, Sathish Prabhu, a prominent BJP leader, joined the Congress party in the presence of the leader of the opposition in the state legislative council, B K Hariprasad, at the Congress office on Sunday, May 7.
Sathish Prabhu, along with three others, made the decision to join the Congress party.
During the event, B K Hariprasad expressed his satisfaction with Sathish Prabhu's decision to join Congress after serving the BJP for three decades. He emphasized that the influx of BJP leaders deserting their party and joining Congress has commenced, with a total of 47 BJP leaders, including Shettar, Savadi, and six MLCs, already making the switch. Hariprasad stated that the BJP's boat is sinking, and Congress is on the path to assume power.
District Congress president Harish Kumar welcomed Sathish Prabhu and acknowledged his long-standing involvement in various roles within the BJP, RSS, ABVP, BJP Yuva Morcha, and the district BJP for over 30 years. Kumar expressed honor in extending a warm welcome to Sathish Prabhu and emphasized that his joining the Congress party is a significant development. Additionally, Santhosh Shetty, Rajesh Kamath, Rajatha R Kamath, and Deeksha Kamath also joined Congress.
Sathish Prabhu himself stated that he had served the RSS and BJP for an extended period. However, in recent times, he observed a lack of work benefiting the people from the BJP, which motivated him to join the Congress party. He clarified that his decision to join Congress was not driven by any desire for a position but rather by the sincere intention to contribute to the party and citizen's progress, considering the significant contributions of the senior leaders in the district.
The event witnessed the presence of AICC secretary Reji John, along with Congress leaders P V Mohan, Lavanya Ballal, Congress Mangaluru South candidate J R Lobo, Shashidhar Hegde, and several others.
