Udupi: Cowshed gutted in accidental fire, cattle killed, loss estimated at lac of rupees

Udupi, May 8: Two cows were burnt to death and cow shed was completely gutted in an accidental fire that occurred in the house of Shambu Shankara Shetty, resident of Kelamullugudde near Shivapura in Hebri taluk on Sunday May 7. The loss is estimated to run into lac of rupees.

The incident occurred during simmering mercury in the afternoon. Most of the house mates had gone out. Only Shambu Shetty’s daughter was at home and she came out as she heard the cows wailing and saw that the cow shed was on fire. She informed the neighbours. However, before the fire service personnel could arrive the shed was completely burnt down.

Arecanut and coconuts valued at lac of rupees were stored inside the cowshed. They were reduced to ashes. Concerned officials have visited the spot and a case is registered.
