‘Yaksha Triveni’- Unique Three-day Treat to Art Lovers

Mangalore, Jul 11: Yakshagana is not a delicate art that can lose its rich essence. It is a ‘representative art’ of the whole state, opined senior Yakshagana artiste, former MLA Kumble Sunder Rao.

He was speaking after he was felicitated by Shree Idagunji Mahaganapathy Yakshagana Mandali, Keremane at Town Hall here on Sunday July 10.

Speaking further he said that Yakshagana is a complete form of art where there is dance, make up, dialogue and music. Next year the academy will publish Yakshagana text books for the school children. Regarding this, the discussions will be held in the next academy meeting and next year text books will be published, he said. He stressed that there is need for sustaining the rich art of this coastal region.

He also urged deputy speaker of the state assembly Yogish Bhat to work towards setting up a separate Yakshagana university.

Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, registrar, Mangalore University presiding over the programme said that a museum of Badaguthittu Yakshagana form will be introduced in Mangalore University soon. Currently in the museum there are only materials related to Thenkuthittu form of Yakshagana.

Dy Speaker N Yogish Bhat inaugurated the ‘Yaksha Triveni’, a three day Yakshagana fest. Ananthakrishna, president of Karnataka Bank was the chief guest. S M Hegde compered the programme. Keremane Shivananda Hegde welcomed.

Three Yakshagana artistes, Kumble Sunder Rao, Soorikumeru K Govinda Bhat and Dr M Prabhakar Joshi will be felicitated on each day of the three-day event.

On Sunday Yakshagana show ‘Subhadra Parinaya’ was perfomed by the Keremane mela artistes. The late Keremane Shambhu Hegde’s son Keremane Shivanand Hegde performed the role of ‘Shree Krishna’ which mesmerised the jam packed audience in Town Hall. ‘Lalithya’(Flamboyance )  of Shree Krishna was down-to-earth with Shivananda Hegde performing the role. Ananth Hegde Danthalike was the ‘Bhagavatha’, Parameshwar Hegde Tharesara coordinated with ‘Maddale’, Gajanana Hegde Muroor with ‘Chande’, and Shreedhar Hegde Chapparamane performed the comedian role.

On Monday July 11 and Tuesday July 12, after the felicitation at 5.30, there will be Yakshagana shows ‘Vaalimoksha’ and ‘Shree Krishna Sandhana’ on two days respectively.

Shree Idagunji Mahaganapathy Yakshagana Mandali, Keremane, Honnavar taluk, Uttara Kannada, the Badaguthittu form of yakshagana institution felicitating the artistes of ‘Thenkuthittu’ Yakshagana artistes have been lauded by the Yakshagana lovers from the region.
