Mangaluru, May 11: Umanath Kotian, the BJP candidate, has accused Congress candidate Mithun Rai of inciting the unfortunate incidents that occurred in Mudushedde of the Moodbidre Assembly Constituency Vyafti yesterday.
Kotian addressed a press conference at the BJP media center today, providing an account of the events that transpired.
Following the completion of polling at the Mudushedde polling station, BJP workers were celebrating by chanting slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the officials transported the voting machines to the demustering center in buses. It was during this time that Congress candidate Mithun Rai arrived suddenly and parked his car in front of the party booth where the BJP workers had gathered. Rai accused them of not questioning the BJP workers who were shouting pro-Modi slogans.
Kotian stated that it was a grave mistake on the part of the BJP workers to approach the polling counter and halt the car. He emphasized that if the Congress party had exercised restraint and allowed the car to pass, the riots would not have occurred. Throughout the day, Rai visited hundreds of booths, including those with BJP counters, and Kotian questioned why no riots were reported from those locations.
Expressing his strong condemnation of the Congress candidate's behavior, Kotian attributed it to frustration over the fear of defeat. He stated that Rai had caused a commotion and made false complaints against the BJP workers.
The press conference was attended by BJP mandal president Sunil Alva, former taluk panchayat president Umesh Shetty, former Mudushedde gram panchayat president Hariprasad Shetty, and current president Jayashree.
