Sharjah: Under-construction Building Catches Fire

Sharjah, Jul 11: An under-construction high rise building situated opposite the Safeer Mall on the Sharjah Dubai highway caught fire at around 7 pm local time on Monday July 11.

The fire which began at the fifth parking level soon went out of control and spread to the upper levels. A whole section of the building was aglow.

Fire services rushed to the spot but they could not go near the building as the heat and burning flying debris made it too dangerous for a direct approach. Their concentration was to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent residential building .

The police were tight-lipped when asked about the cause of the fire. As there were no ambulances at the scene, it could be safely assumed that there were no casualties or injuries.

It may be recalled that another building in Sharjah caught fire sometime last year forcing the residents to vacate the building.
