Beltangady, May 14: Decomposed mortal remains of an unidentified person were found in the public drinking water tank near Umamaheshwara Temple of Karyatadka of Kalenja village in the taluk.
Water is being supplied from the same tank in the locality. On Saturday, May 13, in the morning the residents brought the water which had foul smell to the notice of the panchayat. When locals went and checked inside the tank, they were shocked to find the mortal remains of a stranger inside the tank.
The body was found in a decomposed state and it was estimated that the person might have died about four days back.
It was also suspected that the mortal remains were of a Hindi speaking man, who was working in a wine shop of Karyathadka who had gone missing since three days. He might have committed suicide according to the locals.
Dharmasthala police arrived on the spot and are investigating. Members of the public have been told not to use the water from the tank through WhatsApp and other social media messages.
