Sirsi, May 14: Kusuma Venkatramana Bhat (81), a resident of Kalagara Oddu of Sirsi is a unique woman who has designed umbrella, plates for pooja, bags, cradles from the cover of arecanut flowers. She began doing this artwork at the age of 60.
Kusuma is doing this artwork for the past 20 years. She has weaved beautiful bags using empty toothpaste tubes. Using toothpaste caps she has made decorative hangings for doors.
On the whole, Kusuma turns things which are considered waste or scrap by the general society into invaluable artwork.
