Udupi: Shiroor Mutt Seer Felicitates Special Olympic Medalist Pramila Pinto

Udupi, Jul 12: Pramila Pinto, a student of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pamboor, near here, who bagged a gold and a bronze medal in the recently held Special Olympic in Athens, Greece was honoured by the authorities of Shiroor Mutt and district Nagarika Samiti, here on Tuesday July 12.
Swami Lakshmivarateerta of Shiroor Mutt, block education officer Vasant Shetty, youth service and sports department district deputy director Sitanadi Vittal Shetty, Durgadas Shetty, Dr Ravichandra Rao, Remedia D’Souza, Sr Thelma, Shiny, Latavya Acharya, Laxminarayan Upadhyaya were present.
Swami Lakshmivarateerta said that sports talent among students across the nation does not get identified due to lack of encouragement. He added that it is not only the normal children who have talent but everyone and all one needs is opportunity and the right training to bring forth one's talents.
Vittal Shetty said, "Special Olympian Pramila Pinto has proved to the world that everyone is gifted with talent, but the talent can be exhibited only when there is proper direction and support. The media plays vital role in identifying talent. Winning medals in the special Olympics is indeed a great achievement." He noted that more than felicitations, it is financial support that will help her excel in sports.
Vittal Shetty assured scholarship to special Olympian Pramila Pinto besides provision of sports equipment to Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pamboor.
Earlier, Pramila Pinto was taken in an open jeep in a procession from taluk panchayat office, passing through court road, K M Road, Service Bus Stand, City Bus Stand and terminating at Rajangann.
