Udupi, Jul 13: In a bizarre incident that occured at Hale Mariyamma temple, Kaup here on Tuesday July 12, a person who was earlier believed to have died inside the temple's toilet, 'came alive' when people's representatives, police and media persons rushed to the spot and forced open the door!

On Tuesday, Sunder, a worker at the temple who cleans the temple premises went to clean the toilet located behind the Kaup Hale Mariyamma temple. When he knocked on the door, there was no answer from the person inside, so he informed the temple management committee. He also informed that since Sunday the door of the toilet had remain closed.

Management committee member Shreepathi Prabhu informed this to Kaup police who rushed to the spot with photographers. The news spread like wildfire and scribes swarmed to the venue. Through the window, a person was seen leaning against the door of the toilet and was presumed to be dead. Arrangements were made to shift the ‘body’ by calling some people.

The local gram panchayat was also informed about the incident. The door was broken with the help of a cutting machine in the presence of panchayat members, temple management committee members, police and the public.

But when the door was finally thrown open, the man inside sauntered out, much to the amazement of the crowd!

The person, who seemed to be mentally deranged, said he was from Maharashtra and that his name was Vilas. He refused to give more information and said he had been inside the toilet since Sunday.

For the crowd that had gathered, it was one unforgettable experience.
