Bengaluru, May 21: Senior lawyer Shashikiran Shetty has been appointed as the new advocate general by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Congress government.
Following the assumption of power by the Congress government, the selection of the advocate general was left to the discretion of the Chief Minister, who nominated Shashikiran Shetty for the role.
In the previous government, senior lawyer Prabhhulinga K Navadagi served as the advocate general under both Yediyurappa and Bommai.
Shashikiran Shetty is the son of retired Lokayukta Justice Vishwanatha Shetty.
Upon the Congress government taking charge, discussions were held regarding the appointment of a new advocate general. The names of senior lawyers such as Prof Ravivarma Kumar, Kantaraj, Shashikiran Shetty, Vikram Huyilagola, Sandesha Chowta, and A G Shivanna were being considered. Ultimately, Shashikiran Shetty was chosen for this position.
