Bangalore, Jul 14:
The cyber crime sleuths have arrested a spurned businessman from Dharward who became infamous overnight in December 2010 for uploading nude photos of his girlfriend after she refused to continue relationship with him.

The accused, identified as Ashwath Gaonkar who is the kingpin of the infamous Karavali-MMS was picked up by a team of cyber crime police on Wednesday July 13.

Ashwath who hails from an influential family, whose father is a renowned Ayurvedic doctor, avoided police action so far using his influence at the local level.

However, events took a different turn when the victim approached the CCPS and filed a complaint two weeks ago seeking stern action against Ashwath.

A team led by detective inspector Sharath Kumar, verified email and call details of both victim and the accused before picking up Ashwath.

The police have confiscated a laptop and mobile phones which the accused used to upload the video clip which were circulated worldwide

The accused Ashwath Gaonkar became notorious after he uploaded his lover's nude MMS on social networking sites with the intention to tarnish her image after she refused to continue relationship with him. The photos then were linked to many websites and porn sites and available in the net across the world, police said.

The local police could not arrest him as the accused enjoyed high influence. Despite filing a complaint the local police summoned Ashwath and let him off with a warning.

Gaonkar had on December 28, 2010 uploaded clips of the victim and him having sex. He had also sent her obscene photographs in 2009 to her as a prior warning . When her parents approached the Karwar SP, Raman Gupta, he let him go with a warning. But Ashwath went ahead not caring for police and uploaded the pictures on prominent social networking sites. He even threatened her and asked her to marry him, but she refused, police added.

Suma (name changed) was doing her post-graduation from Karnataka University, when she got introduced to Ashwath, a well-settled businessman .

Soon the duo started dating and visited several places around the state together .

The relationship started to sour soon after Suma moved to Karwar after her graduation.

Suma decided to settle in life and tried to severe her past relationship and changed her mobile phone and contact details.

This enraged Ashwath who desperately tried to track her down and after a series of attemps he managed to contact her in February 2010.

Ashwath spoke to her requesting to continue their relationship and even proposed to marry her. But Suma refused bluntly for which a miffed Ashwath decided to take revenge.

Ashwath even mailed a few still photos and video clips as a warning. Anticipating severe consequences Suma revealed this to her parents who even filed a complaint with the police seeking action.
