The individual, identified as Sachin (25) from Chandrapur, Bengaluru, had visited the beach with five of his friends on Friday night. While two of them were swimming in the sea on Saturday morning, Sachin was swept away by powerful waves. After about 10 minutes, a massive wave brought him back, and he was gasping for breath.
He has been admitted to Manipal Hospital as an inpatient and his condition is reported to be critical.
Due to fluctuating weather conditions, the strength of the sea's current keeps varying. In the past week, two tourists have tragically lost their lives at Malpe beach. It is imperative for the District Commissioner to take stringent measures to prevent tourists from venturing into deep waters.
