Mangaluru, May 29: Former mayor Kavitha Sanil said, "May 28 will be marked a black day for sports persons.
Addressing the media here on Monday, May 29 she said, "Statement of the complaints were recorded in sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. A sportswoman was brutally thrashed on the streets by Delhi police for protesting against the same. Along with the sportswomen, the Delhi police have insulted the Indian national flag.
“As an athlete, I know their struggle and dedication to win medals for the country. The wrestlers were thrashed with the police boots. They have come to a level using their own money. When they won the medals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ready to click pictures along with them, but could not give justice to the same sportswomen. This kind of behaviour with the players who have brought laurels to the country is wrong and condemnable.
"In front of the new Parliament building, it is quoted ‘Sathyameva Jayate’. Do they know its real meaning? The BJP government is not ready to take any action against Brij Bhushan because he is the Member of Parliament representing the BJP party," she said.
Sanil also said, "Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should resign from his post and strict action should be taken against him if PM Modi has some respect for the sportspersons. We will have an immediate protest against the misdeed of the sportswomen by the Delhi police and I will personally meet the sportswomen who were attacked."
