Mangaluru, May 29: Mangaluru CCB police have arrested a man on charges of carrying a large amount of ganja from Vishakhapatana to Mangaluru and Kerala by car. Police have seized 23.250 kilos of ganja from him.
A CCB team under the leadership of ACP P A Hegde which received definite information that the drug was being transported from Vishakhapatana, Andhra Pradesh to Mangaluru by a Mahendra KUV 100 car, intercepted the vehicle near Mudipu Kayaragoli cross and arrested Moidin Shabbir (35), a resident of Bandyod, Mangalpadi grama, Kasaragod.
The police took into custody the car and confiscated 23.250 kilos of ganja, two mobile phone handsets and Rs 220 in cash. The total value of the ganja, the Mahindra car and mobile phone handsets is estimated at Rs 12,96,470. A case in this connection has been registered at Konaje police station.
12 different cases of theft, assault and murder have been registered against the accused Moidin Shabbir in the past at Kasaragod, Manjeshwar, Kumble and Vidyanagar police stations. A case of drug peddling (ganja) was also registered in Andhra Pradesh.
CCB unit ACP P A Hegde, police inspector Sham Sunder M, PSI Sharanappa Bhandary and CCB staff took part in the operation.
