Mangalore: Volvo Bus Service to Bajpe Airport Begins

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VA)

Mangalore, Jul 16: The KSRTC Volvo bus service has been started to city airport at Bajpe here on Friday July 15.

The bus will commence from KSRTC stop to airport at 7.05 am, 10.05 am, 1.05 pm and 4.20 pm. From the airport the bus will start towards KSRTC at 8 am, 11 am, 2.15 pm and 5.15 pm. As of now these four trips have been planned.

The bus will travel via Bejai, KPT, Bondel, Kavoor, Marakada routes and reach the airport and come through the same way from airport to KSRTC bus stop.

The AC bus had 43 seats in it. The KSRTC might extend the bus facility upto city railway station and state bank in future, according to sources.

Taxi Association Objects

The members of Tourist Taxi Association have protested against the new facility as it would be of loss to them. “First of all we get very few commuters but with this move we would be under huge loss as it was the only source of income for us”, they lamented. They urged that they busses shouldn’t be parked in the flyover near airport.

The airport director A R Vasudev and police officials somehow managed to convince the taxi drivers.

Great News..! I suggest put more KSRTC volvo buses in line under different shift as per the arrival and departures of flights schedule for local and international carriers which will cut down the monopoly where Taxi and Govt.public transport will have equal share. Again goodjob from Airports Authority of Mangalore to bring up such a nice International airport with the Transport facility who cannot afford heavy Taxi fare.

LET ME REMIND HERE THAT THOSE DAYS HAVE GONE WHEN PASSENGERS TRAVELLING FROM GULF WERE CARRYING100 KGS OR MORE.NOW, EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE IN INDIA WITH REASONABLE RATES, WHY SHOULD TAKE BURDEN? NOW OEIOLE ARE VERY CONCIOUS ABOUT THEIR LUGGAGE AND NOT CARRYING MORE THAN 20 K.GS. SO BEST OPTION IS BUS. THANK U VERYMUCH KSRTC. WE HOPE AND LOOK FORWARD THEIR SERVICES EXTENDED TO OTHER PARTS OF DK DISTRICT.

Very nice move by KSRTC. It would be nice to put extra City buses specially, 22A and 47B,C / give the extension from Mangalore - Airport via Nanthoor - kulshekar - Vamanjoor - Gurpur-Kaikamba so that people from these regions would be benefited. KSRTC can introduce new services from Airport - B.C Road.

Good initiative. But there is a serious need to adjust the timings of the bus according to the flight arrival and departure. Also, there is a need to extend the routes to other places such as Railway Station, Surathkal,Udupi, Kundapur, etc.

In the mean time, I request the concerned people to put pressure on Air India Express to change the flight timings for sector Muscat to Mangalore which at present is 2.20 am (departure)!!!!! Also there is no flight on Wednesday night. As a result, people who have Thursday off, have to waste a day's leave to catch the Thursday night flight. Please change this schedule. Please note that a large number of passengers are flying through Bombay to avoid this situation.

    Dear R. Mallar,

Too good is your coment. Now thanks to these Volvo bus service scheme, these Taxiwallahs will have comptition. When more passengers go on the Volvo bus and no one rides in their taxi, they will have time to look at the internets and see good ideas of not looting the passengers coming from gulf and elsewhere who have only gold and fridge and whatnot.

But for ultimate competition, they should also allow the private bus operators. In a democracy, why these are prevented?

    Right poi.

KSRTC has done a good move to bus service to airport from Mangalore city. Slowly these services should be extended upto Udupi. Those passenger don't have a lot of luggage the bus service would be the best option and best way to reach the home. Taxi only good for if passenger has carring a lot of luggage. Now passenger has a options to choose like shuttle bus or taxi. Although much more expensive that the taxi service to airport. Every passenger has looking what is the cheapest way to get to or from airport? and what is the most convenient way to get to or from the airport? Regularly scheduled bus service is provided by various locations from airport. Thank you KSRTC

Being a frequent flier to Mangalore, I was finding the Cab guys out there were charging an unrealistic amt to reach the city. The bus facility will surely be a relief to the passengers, including self, as it will definitely reduce the transiting cost to the city & vice versa.

HS KADRI, MANGALORE/DUBAI please dont expect KSRTC to start a bus from your door step because another person might demand the same and it might be difficult for the KSRTC to run the buses in mangalore. Also in the case of KSRTC volvo buses i have seen in blore that there are two types of volvo buses. In one buses where more passengers can travel and in other type buses you have more space to keep luggages especially in the front portion of the bus. If they are putting more luggage facility bus then i think there will be no problem to keep the luggages. Also since people are spending so much money and coming to mlore from abroad, do you think that hiring another vechile from bus stop to their house will be a problem?? For mangalore only if you are saying like that then what about bangalore where airport is nearly 30 kms away from the city.

very goodnews, but how this will work, is it practical. because most of the passangers are having above 30 kgs luggage and each and every passanger having thier own house route and this bus service is up to KSRTC bus stop. that means we have pick another taxi to go to our home which is here and there not coming in the bus route. This is helpful to passanger with one bag. Really it will work ? just if we think in cool it won't the practical at all. ? nama kulludu ennenda gothapundu

Dear Authority - Mangalore Airport is not operating only to mangaloreans, its for the region. Whenever / Whatever you all do ,think about whole region. We are in different era. Stop favouring to one place. Do it first time to all the places, if it is not working stop it. Do not cheat your own people. We also have right to get facility for first time, not only for mangaloeans.

Many Airport in the world has public transport (all kind) from airport.I d't understand why taxi association against it.Everyone arrive at Mangalore airport is not so rich to book a taxi and go to his place. This is very good facilty for those who can not afford paying IRs1000-2000 to reach home but forced to pay.Two important things KSRTC should keep in mind , make sure the timing of Bus departure is set as per flight a rrival timing disembarkation time to enable every passenger to catch the Bus. Secondly start route towards Kundapur-Udupi immediately.

Very good move by KSRTC. Initially, they may not get sufficient passengers but over a period of time, all will prefer this bus. Passengers will have no sympathy for the taxi drivers as they were charging the passengers any amount that would come to their mind. I suggest that this announcement be made inside the flight before landing at the airport. As suggested by Ronald, please start at least a mini bus to Udupi.

The Mangalore airport taxi service is the probably the most expensive in the country. The grievances of the passengers have been of all kinds. From moral policing to forcefully taking passengers to other hotels than the one of their choice. Besides eve teasing and verbal assaults. It is time for discipline to be brought in at the airport. The parking ,blowing the horns, Bullying attitude of the taxi drivers need to be stopped.
A bus service into Kerala should be considered. All staff who work at the airport should utilize the service.
