Mangaluru, May 31: Citizens of Mangaluru have responded well to the RRR centres that were opened by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) with the intention of collecting reusable products. Till May 29, 1662 kg of various products are collected.
RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres are opened in all local bodies all over the country under ‘My Life – Clean City Campaign’ of union housing and urban affairs ministry’s Swachh Bharat Mission cities 2.0 project.
Through this project, the waste that goes to dumping yard is reduced and reusing is encouraged. Public of the city are already giving items that can be reused to the RRR centres that are opened in the city. Items like clothes, footwear, newspapers, plastic carry bags, old books and electronic goods are given to these centres by the citizens.
Clothes and books are collected in huge numbers. Books are sent to libraries while clothes are given to needy people. Toys are given to Anganwadi centres. The centres are opened till June 5 from 7 am to 1 pm. Those who give goods weighing more than five kg are given compost manure and those who give less than five kg are given some other items as gift.
The RRR centres are opened at Lalbagh main office of MCC, Suratkal zonal office, Mannagudda ward office, Valencia ward office, Kavoor market, Townhall Hampankatta, Suratkal Madhavnagar dry waste collection centre, drainage water purifying unit, Bajal dry waste collection centre Bajal and Tannirbhavi beach.
