Mangaluru, Jun 6: The four people involved in case of illegal cattle transportation and had escaped, were arrested late night near Kalapu on Monday June 5.
The arrested are identified as Ahammad Irshad, Jafar Sadik and Fayaz from Ullal, and Khalid B M from Manjeshwar.
The accused had purchased four cows from an elderly lady at Amlamogaru and were transporting it in a mini goods vehicle bearing a Kerala registered number to Alekala, Ullal for slaughtering. A two-wheeler was following the vehicle. When the vehicle got some mechanical defect and was unable to climb up a road, three of them started to push the vehicle. When local residents went to help by pushing the vehicle, they noticed four cows tied and tarpaulin put on it. When questioned, the accused ran away leaving behind the goods vehicle, cows and the two-wheeler.
A case was registered under Cow Slaughter Act and Cruelty to Animals Act at Ullal police station on a complaint from a local resident.
