Udupi, Jun 6: MLA Yashpal Suvarna organised a meeting at Udupi Municipality Sathyamurthi Smaraka hall to discuss pre-monsoon preparation along with officials on Monday June 5.
In the meeting, the MLA suggested, “As school has reopened and monsoon has started, students require more buses to travel. Make arrangements to restart the stopped KSRTC NURM buses in Udupi.
Officials informed that in 2019-20, as many as 20 NURM buses were running and due to COVID-19, only 12 buses were running later. In 2022-23, 17 buses are operating. The MLA in response said, “The public have demanded to bring back 3 NURM buses to Udupi, from Ambalpady to Malpe, Manipal, and Perampalli to Trinity Havanje. If there is more demand, make list of it, I will talk to the officials concerned.”
Talking about stray dogs, the MLA said, “As the monsoon has started, the problem of stray dogs will increase. They will try to harm children and others. Before they cause any harm, the animal husbandry department and city municipality authorities must tack proper action.
A city municipality official informed that as many as 256 dogs are castrated and 209 dogs are injected with rabies injection in a month. Due to lack of proper animal parenting centre, it is risky to treat dogs during rainy season, because it takes 7-8 days for a wound to heal. If the dogs are treated and left in rain, then there may be chances of them getting infected again, informed the official.
The MLA instructed the district officials, and forest and fire department to work in coordination during monsoon and prune the dangerous branches. He also advised to undertake quick rescue operation whenever required and respond to people during floods and arrange boats to rescue the flood-affected public.
Vasanth Kumar H M, district official of fire department said, “Three boats are in Udupi municipality and 7 in the district which are arranged for rescuing people during flood situation. Dangerous trees will be removed are roads will made free for transportation. Staffs are informed to be ready for disaster management.
The MLA handed over house sanction letters to a few beneficiaries.
Municipal commissioner Ramesh P Nayak, president of City Municipality Sumithra R Nayak, deputy president Manjunath and Shrisha Kodavur were present.
