Diamond Jubilee of Airport with 'Samskritika Kalotsava' Cultural Extravaganza

Mangalore, Jul 18: As the third in a series of programmes being held as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Mangalore airport, a five-day cultural festival ‘Samskritika Kalotsava 2011’ organised by the Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee was inaugurated by district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar at Town Hall on Monday July 18.
In his inaugural address Palemar said that all efforts will be put in by the government for the development of Mangalore Airport. Runway extension needs Rs 100 crore, out of which the state government chip in 25 % of the cost. He said Rs 15 crore has already been reserved in the budget for this purpose.
A sum of Rs 7 crore for the development of exit roads from Kenjar side has been set aside, he said, adding that tender process will be initiated soon and by next year the road will be ready, he said.
Deputy speaker of state assembly N Yogish Bhat presiding over the programme said that land acquisition process for the runway extension has been initiated. About development of Tannirbavi beach he said the administrative process and discussions to build a golf court are on and the ropeway linking Sulthan Battery and Tannirbavi will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting.
Chief co-ordinator Tejomaya welcomed. M K Seetaram Kulal, president of the cultural festival committee delivered the vote of thanks.
Dance, singing and painting competitions will be held over the next five days. Tulu drama competition will be held every day between 6 pm and 8 pm during the course of the event.
