Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 10: Eight government schools of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district and four of Udupi district are selected to be promoted as model school under PM SHRI Schools (PM ScHools for Rising India) of union government in accordance with NEP 2020 motto.
Schools which have high number of students and good fundamental infrastructure are selected for the upgradation. Eight schools each from DK, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Mysuru districts are selected for the project. In total, 129 schools of Karnataka and 14,500 schools in the country will be turned into model schools under the project.

The schools which are selected for the project need to develop an action plan for the comprehensive development of the school and send the same to the central office of the state. A nodal officer is nominated to look after this work. The action plan sent by the project coordinating officer needs to be approved by the central office. Then the same will be implemented.
The implementation period of PM SHRI project is five years. The selected schools will get a grant of Rs 1-1.5 crore. The selected schools will have the opportunity to get a well-equipped library, laboratory, classrooms, washrooms, teaching staff, playground etc
The facilities that are made available in the model government schools can be utilised by students of nearby government schools also.
In Dakshina Kannada, zilla panchayat (ZP) government higher primary school Suribailu Bantwal, ZP government model higher primary school Nalyapadavu Mangaluru, ZP government GHPS model school, Nelyadi Kadaba, ZP government model higher primary schools Guttigaru, Sullia, ZP government model higher primary school Moodumarnadu Moodbidri, ZP model higher primary school, Veeramangala, Puttur, ZP government model higher primary school Bajire, Beltangady and Karnataka Pubic school, Kolavoor Muthur are selected for this project.
In the district of Udupi, GHPS Kukkehalli, Udupi, GHPS Thekkatte, Kundapur, GHPS Hebri and GHPS Shiroor (Byndoor) are selected for this project.
