Puttur, Jun 12: A car struck a bridge and plunged into a rivulet at Addahole in Shiradi village near Uppinangady, resulting in the death of one passenger and severe injuries to another in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Hariprasad (45), a passenger in the car traveling from Hosur, Tamil Nadu to Dharmasthala. The driver, Gopi (45), sustained a broken leg and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have either dozed off while driving or attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to the loss of control over the car, which subsequently collided with the bridge railing and fell into the rivulet.

Passing vehicles promptly alerted the locals who then rescued the occupants of the car. Subsequently, the police arrived at the scene and continued with the rescue operation.

A case has been registered at the Uppinangady police station in connection with the incident.
