Doha: Naveen Melwyn D’Souza re-elected as president of MCC Qatar

Doha, June 12: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar conducted its 30th annual general meeting on Friday, June 9, at the Royal Gardens Club House Garden at 6 pm, wherein Naveen Melwyn D’Souza was re-elected as its new president for the term 2023-2025.

Ancita D'Souza, emcee of the programme, opened the evening with an introduction and welcomed the gathering. Shaila Menezes, joint cultural secretary, invoked god’s blessings on the programme and all members with an opening prayer.

The executive committee of 2021-23 led by president Naveen Melwyn D'Souza was invited to the dais. Naveen and his enthusiastic team of youngsters did a commendable job in taking MCC to greater heights.

With his innovative and active committee 2021-2023 members helped them to organise many successful programs like Global Konkani Comedy Challenge, Global Baila Challenge in Daijiworld 24x7 TV and the MCC Qatar YouTube Channel.

 

Mangalorean Sports day, this was one kind of an event loved by all Mangalureans which was conducted between 8 varados which was a huge success. In addition to these events, the club conducted various events like summer camp for kids –to promote Konkani language knowledge to kids, - family Monthi fest, blood donation camps.

The club won the Bunts Qatar Volleyball Tournament and were runners up of the throwball tournament conducted by Indian Sports Center besides winning the overall runner-up championship trophy in the intercommunity sports event conducted by Mangalore Cultural Association. 

Joint secretary Sean Colin Fernandes presented the annual report of the club to the members for the term 2022-23. The treasurer, Anup D'Souza presented the audited financial report.

A small question answer session time was allotted for members to ask any queries or make any suggestions. Advisor  Sunil Dsouza D’Silva read out the amendment to the MCC constitution and bylaws before the members.

Riana Pinto, advisor of the club was then invited to officiate the election of
the new committee. She first dissolved the old executive committee members from their duties. She then conducted the election of the new president and executive committee.

She read all the nominations received for the 13 positions and invited all elected members to the stage. The new executive committee is as follows:

President: Naveen Melwyn D'Souza
Vice-President: Shameen Lewis
General Secretary: Renzil Jaison D'Souza
Cultural Secretary: Meena Francisca Mascarenhas
Sports Secretary: Melwin Pinto
Membership Secretary: Preema Frank

Treasurer: Anup D'Souza

Facilities and Arrangements Secretary: Denzil Christine Lobo
Public Relations Officer: Amith Mathias
Joint Secretary: Vanessa Saldanha
Joint Cultural Secretary: Glen Rohan D’Ssa
Joint Sports Secretary: Bertrand Rolin Monteiro
Joint Facilities and Arrangement Secretary: Pradeep Prakash Mendonca.

Riana Pinto then took an oath from all the elected members describing their duties and were officially enrolled into the committee. She then handed over the constitution to the new president Naveen Melwyn D'Souza.

Sub-committees to assist the executive committee were also formed on the occasion. The members are:

Cultural team: Shawn Tauro, Anet Noronha, Riyona Gonsalves
Sports team: Anitha Jenitha Dsouza, Vincent Mendonca, Venil D'Souza.

To facilitate the future programmes between Varados and to have greater participation in all events, the 8 Varado Gurkars elected by advisory committee were introduced.

Earlier in the year, Varados of Mangalore and Udupi diocese were divided into 8 teams. Names of Varado Gurkars are as follows:

Coastal Warriors: Preethi D’Llima
Champions of Shirva: Stanly D’Souza 
Amche Udupi: Avinash D’Souza
Episcopal Warriors: Arnold D’Souza
Konkan Warriors: Ryan Renjar
Kodialchi Thara: Ashwin D’Ssouza
United Bantwal: Melwin Fernandes
United Porbus: Nishan D’Ssouza

Newly elected president Naveen Melwyn D'Souza then delivered his acceptance speech and thanked members for giving him another chance to serve the community as president.

He thanked the outgoing committee for a successful term and congratulated the newly elected committee members. He addressed the gathering by identifying MCC’s immense contribution to the good of the society and appreciated the sacrifice and service of all the advisors, executive committee and members.

Despite the Covid-19 lockdown MCC Qatar conducted all the events successfully on virtual platforms. He specially thanked everyone for the huge success of MCC Qatar Global Comedy Challenge and MCC Qatar Global Baila Challenge which was telecasted on Daijiworld 24x7 TV and MCC Qatar YouTube Channel. 

He also thanked all the subscribers of MCC Qatar YouTube Channel. He also requested members to step forward to participate in the club's programmes and give their full support and cooperation as a whole Mangalorean
Community family to come under one roof and join hands during Mangalorean
Sports Day this year and for all the future events. He invited all to be a part of the Monthi Festh – Inter Varado Variety Entertainment Competition scheduled for September 15, 2023.

The rules and regulations would be sent out soon to the members by email, he said.

Advisor Alwyn D'Souza gave a brief introduction about ‘MCC Jewels’, a
group which supports cancer patients and encouraged all members to be part of this group to join in this noble cause.

The official programme was then followed by a short cultural programme and some spot games. Amith Mathias and Ancita D'Souza compered the cultural programme.

Neil D’Silva rendered the beautiful Konkani song ‘Mariyola’ composed by
MicMax. Riyona Gonsalves sang the beautiful song ‘Sovnsar Bovnthiso’ composed by Konkan Kogul Late Wilfy Rebimbus.

Well-known singer Naveen Pinto and melodious singer Eva Wilma Pinto sang a beautiful Kannada duet number ‘Preethi Maadabaradhu’ from the moivie ‘Ranadheera’.

On this occasion, Avina Dsouza entertained the audiences with her mono Acting. Konkani humorous shayaris were presented by Renzil D'Souza. Master Maverick Mascarenhas enthralled the audiences with a comedy mixed magic show along with anchors Amith and Ancita.

The newly elected general secretary Renzil Jaison D'Souza rendered the vote of thanks.

Advisor Vivian D'Souza prayed forseeks Almighty’s blessings on the dinner. A The whole event was concluded by a fellowship dinner.

MCC executive committee takes this opportunity to thank all members who came forward to make this 30th annual day a memorable one.
