Mangaluru: Gold, cash theft from flat – Four accused arrested within three hours

Mangaluru, Jun 17: South police station personnel of the city arrested four thieves, who stole cash and golden ornaments from two apartments near KMC Hospital in Attavar, within three hours of the occurrence of the theft.

New Delhi natives Mohammed Asheep (23), Sheikh Maidul (25), Vakil Ahmed (34) and West Bengal native Rafiq Khan (24) are the arrested culprits.

On June 15, a case was registered in Pandeshwar police station of thieves breaking the front doors of two apartments of a residential building near KMC Attavar and stealing golden ornaments and cash worth Rs 4.45 lac between 1 pm and 3 pm.

The police took into custody four youths who were roaming suspiciously near Panambur beach on the evening of June 15. On inquiry, they confessed to the crime. Police confiscated the golden ornaments and cash, two cutters, two screw drivers, one sharp iron rod, seven costly mobile phones.

It is learnt that the accused were on the verge of escaping to New Delhi. During the investigation it has come to light that the accused were targeting houses and apartments that are locked and which do not have CCTV. Further investigation is on.

Police inspector Manjunath of city south police station, SI Manohar Prasad, Anant Murdeshwar, Sheetal Alagoor, Jyoti G and personnel of crime detection wing Prakash Naik, Laxmana Salotagi and Bhaskar Halady took part in the operation.
