Udupi, Jun 17: Women of Ambalpady village took water pots and gheraoed the Ambalpady gram panchayat (GP) office on Saturday, accusing the administration of not providing drinking water through tankers.
The villagers say that acute shortage of drinking water is faced in the city of Udupi. Villagers of Ambalpady which is very close to the city are also not supplied with tanker water in a proper manner. City municipality is supplying drinking water once in five days. Villagers took to task the president of Ambalpady gram panchayat. They urged the concerned officials to come to the spot and resolve the issue.
Speaking to media, women of Ambalpady village said, “How we have to live without water? As the water that is available here is not potable. Gram panchayat has to make alternative arrangement. We pay taxes to the panchayat. They have released water only thrice in the past two months. Around 80 families are living in the village.”
