Hubballi, Jun 18: BJP will take to streets and launch protests if the Congress government fails to distribute rice under its Anna Bhagya guarantee from July 1 as promised, said former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to media persons in Hubballi after performing the Bhoomi Puja for the construction of a high school building at Chabbi village, Bommai said the Siddaramaiah government, which rode to power by promising its guarantees, is bound to lose its popularity for long.
The former chief minister said the Congress party should have thought of all
logistics before making promises which it could not keep. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress leaders are making ‘’lame excuses’’ to indicate that rice is not coming and they are ‘’needlessly blaming the Narendra Modi regime,’’ he said wondering whether the plans to get rice from Chattisgarh will fructify.
The BJP leader said the government should be prepared to buy rice if state’s
farmers are willing to sell and instead the government should not blame BJP leaders to make arrangements to supply rice.
"It is the government’s responsibility to implement Anna Bhagya from July 1.
If they fail, we will not remain silent and will protest,’’ he warned.
Bommai accused the Siddaramaiah government of not making arrangements
to ensure supply of drinking water. The government should constitute a task force to tackle the problem on a war footing and cannot keep quiet by merely holding a video conference with officials, he said pointing out that he had already warned the government of the impending problem about a week ago about serious problems in about 500 villages.
Answering questions, Bommai said the BJP will elect its opposition leader before the commencement of the legislature session on July 3.
State Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, MLA M R Patil and others were present.
